“Mario, I’m home!” Luigi called out as he toed open the front door. No response. That’s okay; the day Mario’s voice rang through their house was the day that pigs flew, anyway.
Luigi ventured further inside to the kitchen, intent on putting away the groceries he bought in Toad Town on the way home. He found Mario sitting at the kitchen table, idly fiddling with something in his hands.
“Hey, Mario!” Luigi greeted his brother brightly, setting his bags on the counter. “What’cha got there?”
Mario started at Luigi’s voice, dropping whatever he was holding onto the floor.
“Whoops!” Mario must have been really deep in thought! “Don’t worry, I’ll get that for ya!” Luigi ducked under the table.
The small object was easy to find, the metal glinting starkly against the hardwood floor. What was this anyway, a pin? He turned it over as he stood up. The image on the front was very green. And black and white and striped?
Oh, Luigi’s seen this flag before!
He looked back at his brother, whose normal confident and collected demeanor was belied by an unsure look in his eyes. But what was there for Mario to be unsure about?
With a smile, Luigi tossed the pin back to Mario. “I thought I was supposed to be the green one,” he quipped.
Whatever weight Mario was carrying seemed to vanish instantly as he laughed at Luigi’s (definitely not terrible) joke.

We interrupt editing the last chapter of Cinderello (remember that fic?) to bring you a fic featuring Aromantic!Mario that I wrote, edited, and posted in under 2 hours. I don't know how that happened. Who am I. Why can't I do this with any of my other WIPs... (¬_¬")
Wish I had a better idiom than "when pigs flew". something more tailored to the Mario world (although…there probably are pigs, I think?) But eh it’s a minor thing. I didn’t want to get bogged down by editing.
Peach introduced Mario to the concept of being Aro, because she's a bit more plugged into to that stuff than the boys are. As such, she keeps buying Mario merch because she's very enthusiastic about him finding an identity he resonates with XD Luigi knows about it because he idly flips though pamphlets sometimes.
