SUNDAY

The last day of DC-Slash Con! My main goal was to attend the Vid Review panel, because I wanted to see the type of feedback vidders get, and thus what’s important in making a vid. It was all very informative! Not only for the aforementioned, but I also learned that one of the sources, Unbelievable Space Love, is 9 minutes long and available for free on Youtube. And that source that had the spies doing awesome action scenes (I think Shah Rukh Khan is a character or actor?) is some kind of Bollywood movie universe, or something. I’ll have to verify the details later. And then yes, Thunderbolt Fantasy really is all puppets. Which is super hecking cool.

So overall, DC-Slash con was a lot of fun! I’m excited for next year!!!

In the meantime, I finally got around to cleaning my room a little, and playing some more Fields of Mistria. Got 2 more 8-heart events under my belt!

MONDAY

I worked on my website! Made a skeleton of the structure and learned about relative links. I'm going to have to combine the CSS files I have of my two templates together, and also figure out how mail merging works to make compiling the masterlist of my fic easier, lol.

I also worked on filling out some ship templates for the Royal Plumbing Polycule, since its just past the anniversary of me posting the first fic in the series. Couldn't decide which template, so I'm filling all 3 for now. And I'll have to redraw my old relationship graph, too~

I also went back and listened to some of the songs from Saturday’s Vid Show again. Salute by Little Mix is a fun enough song. But it's also like “heck yeah, let's theme our Girl Power anthem around military-esque music and language for reasons we refuse to examine! Wahoo!” You know?

TUESDAY

I realized, with my new and improved hair washing and styling workflow, I am now That Bitch that takes literally an hour to take a shower. I should count myself lucky that I don't have roommates anymore to bother with this. (Well, there’s my brother. But in college I roomed with 5 people so that would have been worse.) The extra time was worth it though. It's been like a week since I styled my hair, and I've forgotten how cute it looked when I did~

Kept working on the website. I wanted to combine the CSS of the alphabet-soup template with the CSS of the fic masterlist template. After fighting with it all evening, I finally reached a compromise that I’m happy with! All there’s left to do now is 1) consolidate the root variables 2) adjust the colors for the dark/light modes, and 3) move on to testing the alphabet-soup fic reading template, which should go way smoother because I won't have to adjust any CSS files hardly at all! I also wanna maybe figure out how to get the footer text from the masterlist CSS onto the other pages, because I really like it!

WEDNESDAY

I was thinking of leaving the office at noon to avoid the heat but it turns out noon is one of the hottest parts of the day, go figure. Actually, it was a little cooler at 5pm, even! So it worked out!

…And it turns out while I was gone Dad drove up, and he and my brother had gone to the mythical tax-free land of New Hampshire to buy a TV and TV stand before the tariffs hit. Unexpected, but certainly welcome!

Spent all evening working on my Royal Plumbing Polycule ship charts. Figured out rather quickly that Google Drawings was the best, easiest to use, and most accessible tool I had for this (GIMP, the first option I’d thought of, was too confusing). I spent most of my time setting up one chart, but now that I had them all as documents and all the colors chosen and decided on the formatting, the rest should be smooth sailing. In fact, I got about 80% of the way done by the time bedtime rolled around!

THURSDAY

My brother spent the day assembling the TV stand (he put the back on backwards, but it’s okay!), and after work I set up the TV. Apparently both my parents had insisted to my brother that we don't use our email addresses for it, so I made up a whole new one, haha. It’s a Google TV, after all.

But it’s working great! My brother found a streaming service that was playing a big block of The Super Mario Bros Super Show, somehow. I’m interested to see if that programming block is a 24/7 thing, tomorrow. I’d love to start my mornings watching that…

I finished the ship charts! Shout out to this SVG to PNG converter for coming in clutch; the text would have been all blurry, otherwise!

FRIDAY

Messed with the TV some more. It turns out that yes, there is a channel just for playing the Super Mario Bros Super Show. I also installed S0undTV and SmartTubeNext! So hopefully no ads~!

And actually you know what I'm still not done about the Mareach friendship thing. It's crazy how many baseline assumptions people have about the series that causes them to say whatever. “Mario rescues Peach, which implies a romantic link” this, “Mario's been rescuing Peach for 40 years” that. Honestly.

Went home to do laundry, and watched some WNBA games on my parents’ TV! The LA vs Seattle one went into double overtime!!! Apparently triple overtime was an option, which is crazy.

SATURDAY

I was looking for stuff to watch on TV this morning and found How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift? It's an anime where a bunch of schoolgirls are trying to lose weight/tone up, so they all are at the same gym to do so. Of course, all of them are skinny as twigs. Except for the muscle guy, I suppose. But anyway, obviously not worth watching, lmao. I landed on Xena: Warrior Princess, instead, as my background noise while waiting for breakfast. Even with the little I saw, I could see that it's a solid show! I really liked the physical effects and stuff, haha.

Also Season 5 Bubble Guppies episodes are listed as Season 1 and that pains me so much. And then later in the day I find out that Amazon Prime lists the Super Mario Bros Super Show episodes in the complete wrong order. So that's also fun!

Dabbled in some of my game backlog; I started with Cassette Beasts! Played through the first little tutorial section, and it didn't really hook me like I'd hoped. It also is one of many games that decides it wants to be a little scary by using glitching effects to represent breaks in reality. I swear every cute-ish game has that shit now…Regardless, I really wanna try again at some point because I'd wanted to play the game after hearing how non-amatonormative it is, haha. I also played Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure. It's a puzzle game. Everything was going fine, until I got stuck on a puzzle in the first area after the tutorial world. And no, there's no hint system or anything. So, you know. I turned the game off XD

Spent the evening watching a pickleball tournament match, and then Women's 3x3 basketball. Because apparently 3x3 basketball has an international competitive tournament structure — rules, referees and all. And everyone else knew about it but me.

SUNDAY
I was scrolling through Tumblr this morning and I came across someone who announced their intention to ship Bowser and Bowser Jr. All I can say is godspeed, friend. o7 Stay strong and don't let anyone take your joys from you…! (Their blog proudly states that their a fan of incest ships, so they'll probably be alright, hehe)

Made a foray into using the ao3downloader to get the html files of all my fics for my site. Had a bit of trouble, but this GitHub post solved my issue. This program is really neat! Worked like a charm~

Last night I found a Murderbot Diaries fic where the narrative is told via you playing a game of Minesweeper. It’s really cool. The code also goes nuts, lmao (I peeked at it to see all the different endings).

Also I finally finished cleaning up my Dreamwidth blog!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Everything I want to be up here is posted here now! So now I can turn my attention to Phase 2 of this project: Making my Neocities website.

…After I play my fill of Fields of Mistria. The new update is tomorrow! 😀

MONDAY - TUESDAY
Fields of Mistria update dropped! It’s fun to get back into the game~ You can date people now! Multiple people! Apparently! (I haven’t gotten there yet)

Played it through Tuesday, although on that day I got like a bunch of messages from people I know in a bunch of different channels. A high school friend on Discord, a mutual on Tumblr, a former coworker on LinkedIn, someone I'd been chatting with late last year on Pillowfort. Nothing bad; it was just a bit overwhelming ^^;

I also took a break to go shopping today because our water's being shut off tomorrow morning/afternoon so I wanted to make sure water was in the house for the duration. I also bought snacks :D

WEDNESDAY - THURSDAY
On Wednesday Dad came with a couch! We’ve been trying to convert the spare room to a living room (because my brother claimed the living room as a bedroom, and we’re finally getting started on that process. The couch can convert into a relatively firm bed, just in case we ever have guests.

I also went out to sing at an event with some other a cappella folks. It was fun! We got ramen after~

And then I played more Fields of Mistria into Thursday. I wanna try to complete Year 2 before putting it down again.

FRIDAY
Apparently Nintendo officially declared that Princess Peach and Mario are “good friends”. Platonic Mareach FTW!!!!! Everyone else is super crashing out about it tho 🤭 (Everyone loves the power of friendship until it interferes with a ship they like, lol) (also by god the casual misogyny about it all! Yikes!)

DC-Slash Con starts today! It's not about DC comics; it’s ‘cause the con originally was tied to Washington DC. I’m glad that cleared up for me, because otherwise I wouldn't have thought to go XD. There are lots of good panels! I especially enjoyed the Building Inclusive Fandom one.

SATURDAY
More DC-Slash Con! I’d meant to blitz the creation of pages for my website, but ended up distracted by the con, haha.

There was a panel about vidding and now I wanna get into vidding but i dont have anything to vid! Mario cutscenes? Probably not that viable! Weh! Maybe if it was a very short vid…

Also during the meal break they streamed the first 2 episodes of the Murderbot TV show in the Discord and I had to check it out. People weren't wrong in saying its fanfic of the books. They handled the inner monologues and the awkwardness very well, though!. Makes me wanna reread the first book again. And apparently in the Discord someone shared a link to their treasure trove of a bunch of TV show rips. One of those was Murderbot. Another was Ted Lasso, which is a show I want to watch sometime. I have both on my hard drive now 🙂

They had Buddy Daddies playing in one of the con rooms and I watched a little of that, too. Couldn't get into it, though. A shame, ‘cause that was another show that was on my watch list. But the character dynamic of the main leads (to start off, anyway) isn't very compelling to me. I didn’t like it 🙁

The Vid Show was AMAZING! There was an Ace attorney vid set to I’m Blue that was fun. Also there was a Thunderbolt Fantasy vid that was intriguing! It had puppets and 3d animation and 2d sprites and LEGO and is this all the same source??? And the action scenes were super cool, too…! There was also a vid about Ted Lasso that made me really wanna watch the show more than I already did. And there was a multifandom vid starring a whole bunch of F/F couples, and hopefully the vid will be released somewhere because I’m super curious about the Black couple that kept being shown and the fandoms list scrolled too fast to clock it. 🙁 Also there was a vid about New Life Begins and another about a universe of Bollywood spies(?) that looked really cool as well. One of the vids had Frog and Toad in it and another was like a minute long so truly you can vid anything if you try hard enough…🤔 Vids are cool and I’m adding vidding to my ever-growing list of hobbies I don't have time for.

SUNDAY
Didn’t play Fields of Mistria today! Instead I cleaned my room 😀 I also finished all the Dreamwidth crossposting I wanted to do, except for this blog. Gotta get on that…!

I also need to change some tags around, like the fic vs fandom Mario tags. But then I can say I’m totally done, and can move on to the Neocities phase of this project! I found an awesome template for it too, a few days ago, so that will help considerably. I want to make as much progress as I can in this because my evening activities start back up again and I lose most of my free time.

In the meantime, Word Play comes out tomorrow 😀

MONDAY - TUESDAY
Really locked in on cleaning up my Dreamwidth blog. All I have left right now is posting all the weekly blogs on there and adding the fic text of most of my one-shots to the DW posts themselves. Then I’ll be finished!!!

Also played Word Play! It’s a good game, even if I’m a little bad at it! But still, I don't have to cheat as much as I thought I would!

WEDENSDAY
I had so many plans to be productive tonight and then I read Wanted and In Desire by Ready4This. I know Bowser/Starlow was a thing that existed, but oh my fucking god I was not prepared for these fics. They’re amazing. Please read them for the love of god you won’t regret it!

Even still I worked on converting these blogs away from bullet point format, because trying to cajole bullet point lists to play nice with readmores on DW is a pain in the ass. So I’m not going to bother anymore. Disjointed thoughts it is.

THURSDAY

Worked hard on trying to catch up with posting these blogs. But also I had a terrible headache and was so so tired. So that didn't progress quite as much as I wanted it to :(

FRIDAY
Spent the afternoon and evening cleaning! I swept and mopped the kitchen and hallway floors, cleaned the counters, cleaned the fridge, and took a shower and washed my hair!

I also tried to replace one of the outlet covers in my room; I’d broken it last month. I bought a fancy one from Etsy, but it doesn't exactly fit. Oh well. I’ll get a normal one soon.

I listened to Rogue Protocol the whole time, though. I’ve got 40 mins of the audiobook left! The Miki character was so annoying in the beginning and also I was so stressed about whether he’d keep Murderbot’s secret or not that I had to go look up the plot summary to figure it out XD So I spoiled myself! But it’s fine; I’m still enjoying the book~

Regardless, with all this productivity, I didn't get to work on the blog nor play Fields of Mistria. 🙁

SATURDAY
Went to my eye doctor appointment, and apparently my vision is very stable. And also last week's eye scare was an ocular migraine. Had a hunch, but it's nice to have it confirmed.

My chorale director is music directing an opera, so I decided to go. The website says that it's an hour long. On one hand, we love a shorter experience. On the other hand, the only 2 operas I've seen so far have been 2 and a half and 3 hours long, respectively. So I'm a little bit confused. I'm betting the opera is actually an hour and half, maybe? We’ll see!

Oh never mind; the program given out says the performance is 1 hour. I certainly did pay $45 for an hour of opera 😐. Well. Alright, then. (The other operas were $35-ish). Thomas & Sally do be like that, I guess. To quote the program:
“Opening in 1760 when Arne was already well-known, THOMAS & SALLY was an afterpiece, a short work performed after a stage play. It was the first through-sung English opera - no spoken dialogue. [...] Thomas & Sally is in the English music hall tradition, a forerunner of vaudeville and the social mocking of upper-class British life we see in Gilbert & Sullivan operettas.”

The opera was really fun, though! Low-stakes comedy FTW! Loved all the visual and background gags, hehe. They changed the setting to Boston modern-ish day so they had bits like Thomas excessively taking selfies with Sally and the sailors entering a scene takeout and bibs with lobsters on them from presumably a seafood restaurant. Also some of the visual gags were a little gay, re: the antagonist and his little entourage. Which was very cute, lol. Also they still had supertitles even though the opera was in ENGLISH! which was very appreciated.. I even said hi to my director before I left! It was very awkward. But I did it!

And guess who caught up on the backlog of blogs to post~? 😃 What I might do next is get all my fic oneshots in the bodies of their posts, and maybe go through the blog entries to see if other organizational tags can be applied to them, like if there’s a fic rec in there or a show mentioned or something like that.

SUNDAY
The return flight has Flow but not The Wild Robot :( Flow was fun though! A bit boring, kinda, but I really appreciated a no dialogue movie~ got me a little bit at the end, emotionally, too. Can't believe it just ends like that, lmao. It was poignant, though.

Got back in time to watch baseball on Discord! We won!!!! And it’s nice to be home with my Alarmo :) I missed her :)

MONDAY - THURSDAY
Literally sat all day Monday in my chair and played Fields of Mistria. To the point where my eyes got tired and started showing my frizzy squiggly rings and I got scared of an impending Retina Detachment Event. But it wasn't that! If it was, I'd be going blind suddenly 🙂

I also played Fields of Mistria Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday almost every hour I could, because I was having fun and also as a coping mechanism for getting Covid in Denver :)

FRIDAY
Took a break from the fields to go shopping. I also went to an opera, Rigoletto. It was kind of a bummer, but I guess that's opera for you? It was also three hours long, and one of the train lines was closed so I had to take a mildly-hectic and convoluted set of busses to and from the venue. It was good though!

Also I posted
a fic tonight~!

SATURDAY
Posted
another fic today! It's just a little thing I've had in my WIP folder for a little too long, for how simple and nothing it is. Although I did make it a little more complex than necessary by making it a quadruple drabble, lol

And then I went right back to Fields of Mistria! …for probably the last time until the update. I'm finding myself at a loss on what to do in-game, now that I've finished the mines, and what's left is grindy and boring (finding artifacts, increasing heart levels, chopping wood). So I'll wait!

SUNDAY
Alcina show #3, and the last one! I miss Barbara already… 🥺

I implemented the techniques I gleaned from my salon visit and they worked pretty well, it looks like! The front of my hair isnt weird anymore! \o/ Hopefully now I only need to go back there every 6 months, max, for a trim~

MONDAY
Getting to the airport was way more nerve-wracking than I thought it be ^^; I was too full of nerves to even eat breakfast. But also God was paying enough attention to me that my Uber driver arrived literally an hour early, so I was able to get to the airport early, too :D Our flight is even delayed! 🙃
'Till 3pm…at least they gave me a complementary meal voucher! 15 whole dollars!

Thinking about how to better plan for food for flights…I'd meant to bring a banana or two from home but forgot. I bought a $6 almond croissant from one of the airport stores and it wasn't even that good. I'm probably gonna end up eating a meal on the plane. And all this preparation and charging my electronics and stuffing my bag full just for the in-flight entertainment to have both Flow and The Wild Robot XD That takes care of that, then!

…Never mind the in flight entertainment isn't working 😭😭😭 Maybe on the return flight 😭😭😭

Made it to the hotel before dark, which in the end was the real goal, I suppose. Way too late to do a Target run, though.

Also the hotel room TV lets you cast to it but I can't because of the type of YT app I have (one from the seas). Oh well! I watched the San Francisco Giants lose a game and then went to bed early.

TUESDAY
Adjusting to Denver: dry throat, dry mouth, dry nose, mucus production, slight headache. I dunno which of these are from just waking up and being hungry. I also seem to be constipated and I almost passed out on the way to lunch XD

Cool Quartets I Saw Today (most notable ones are starred):
  • The Vagabonds (from Japan!)
  • Lady A Cappella*
  • Smoke Ring*
  • The Light Fantastic
  • Extra Credit
  • Verse
  • Fifth Element
  • First Take*
  • Party of Four
  • Lemon Squeezy
  • Gimme Four*
  • The Newfangled Four (I guess) (They'll always be a try-hard Daily Special to me, though)
  • Also I missed Rooftop Records but I should check them out at some point… apparently they had really good masculine energy, to pair with Smoke Ring’s really good feminine energy

WEDNESDAY
I pooped! 🎉

Daily Special performed!!! They were awesome!!! YEAH!!!!! Also GQ sang for us during our rehearsal and they were AMAZING

Had some Ramen for dinner and it was good! The restaurant was very small and cute, lol

I’ll probably go to the Comedy Quartet competition later tonight. Even if it's late, there are women in there so I don't mind going XD I can just bow out when they're done and gain that extra half hour XD Likewise, I probably won't go to the AIC show like I was considering because it's all (except for one maybe?) white men, lmao. No thanks!

…and actually I didn't end up going to the comedy quartet festival because casting YouTube videos to the TV was way more entertaining 😅  me and my roommates watched a hysterical video from OnADock about the MarioKart World NPCs, and then I got to show them Defying Gravity but it's rollercoasters :D

THURSDAY
Washed my hair this morning but I think it came out worse. It dried way faster than I expected!

There's FanExpo happening and people in cosplay are wandering around. We saw civilian!Joker and his friend and Hinata and Maka and etc etc. Godspeed to the kid in the Hufflepuff coat, though XD

We did a set swap with Parkside Melody and they were so good!!!!!!!! Love to see a good treble chorus~

Quartet Semis:
  • SMOKE RING KILLED IT AGAIN!!!!
  • AND GQ!!!!!
  • Secret Best Friends
  • Gimme Four and Clutch also performed well
  • First Take’s running gag in their second song was HYSTERICAL)

FRIDAY
We performed!!! It was awesome!!!! So much fun!!!

Chorus Contest session 1 and 2 notable choruses:
  • Parkside Melody slayed, obvs
  • Music City Chorus definitely earned the standing ovation they got, woah
  • Voices of Gotham!!!!!
  • SmorgasChorus
  • Forward Motion had a lovely lovely themed set, with a throughline and everything
  • Pacific Connection. Brown people are fucking awesome, man. I literally cried. If you don't watch another barbershop a cappella please listen to this one when it comes out.
Also I wanna give a big shoutout to my roommates for letting me yap at them about Mario lore over dinner, lol. They seemed enthused! We even got to watch the American Revolution episode of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show! :D

SATURDAY
Chorus session 3 notable choruses:
  • Sirens of Gotham
  • City Lights Chorus was pretty good!
  • East Coast Sound ha a really cute uptune XD
  • Northern Stars Chorus!!!!!! Their performance was so good!!!!!
  • Stockholm City Voices!!!! The foreign choruses are running circles around the USAmericans, lol
  • Central Standard was pretty cool 🙂
  • Amersham A Cappella
  • Masters of Harmony Actually Danced on stage, it was great.
  • The Sound of the Rockies had a really funny skit; they had a Set! A Saloon! Physical comedy!!!
And as for the chorus contest results: Pacific Connection got 3rd place!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 And that’s all that matters to me!!!

Quartet Finals:
  • Full Effect did a wonderful job!
  • Newfangled Four played ONE song straight and they HAD me. And then the next song was a bunch of jokes and yapping and they lost me, lol.
  • First Take's songs were very cute~
  • Saturday Night Social sang “Coffee in a Cardboard Cup” and it was so fun!
  • GQ KILLED IT!!!!! YEAAAAAHHHHH!!!!! (they won in my heart if they don't actually win)
  • Lemon Squeezy was actually honest to God funny! In a way that was actually funny and made me smile instead of raise my eyebrows a mile high, lmaoooo
  • Smoke Ring was even funnier! Even when they yapping! Their yapping was funny! Some people should take notes…👀
  • Apparently the SAI Queens of Harmony Quartet has a Black lady in it~ They're Clever Girl and they rickrolled us 🤣
  • Also to be fair Three and a Half Men also has a Black man in there. I just always forget XD (I wonder if there's a black person in a Quartet that isn't a bass…🤔)

Quartet contest results:
  • GQ in 5th (bronze)! Not bad! I'm glad they medaled~
  • Lemon Squeezy won!!!!! (I won't be mad about non-Americans winning~)

SUNDAY
Saw the Alcina cover performance! They couldn’t get the supertitles working :( On the bright side though, there’s a part where the nobleboy character looks at Alcina and says “Barbara” with extreme venom, and I’d been assuming it was something like “Fuck you!” given the context but I managed to look it up on my phone and it’s more like “You bitch!” (Well. I think it actually means “barbarian”? But you know, same vibe!) Holding out hope for a recording of the performance with the captions so I can go back and look at what all the Italian means…!

MONDAY
My A/C doesn't work and it’ll be 102 degrees tomorrow! 🙃

Noodled around with a grand piano today before opera rehearsal and reflected on how I've forgotten a lot of the piano sheet music I used to know offhand. Especially this one arrangement of Wish of the Princess from Paper Mario. I have to reconstruct it every time I wanna play it, lol; I always forget the chords. I used to have a big binder of printed sheet music but I lost it ages ago, unfortunately.

TUESDAY

Birthday!!!!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

I posted my fic! I really love it a lot; I knocked it out of the park! Too bad my talent continues to be unrecognized by the fandom! Woohoo!

Anyway I got to play Cult of the Lamb on my new Switch 2! With the new Pro Controller! It's not nearly as mad that I've got 30 cultists anymore, haha.

Dad brought a new A/C!!! And bought me cake :) and I had my Drunken Noodles for dinner!

“Barbara” might be murderer, according to the official supertitles 🤔

Another supertitles W: there's a song near the end of Act 1 that I've mentally decided is Bradamante going “fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you” to Ruggiero, and according to the text its…basically that XD with an interlude of “you know what this is stupid and youre mean just kill me, please i’d rather that, tbh”

WEDNESDAY
The service I bought to export my playlists to csv files doesn't hook up to my YouTube :( it throws up an error every time…waste of my 5 dollars…

Nonetheless I downloaded/bought all the songs needed to fill out my music library on the Spotify side. Now I just gotta manually do the YouTube side! There's a lot of overlap between them, so it shouldn't be so bad.

THURSDAY
Got my hair styled~ it'll go a little to waste because of the opera costume but it's fine! Just wanted it trimmed~ Also learned some new techniques to use while washing and styling my hair at home 👍🏾

Made a list of stuff I want to pack for Denver. Haven't cross-referenced it with normal “what to pack” lists yet, but I think I've hit all the major stuff. I also put all the major convention activities into my calendar! It'll make things easier, hopefully, when I get there.

And I took the time to refresh a bunch of my passwords; apparently there was a really big data leak recently? It was very mind-numbing work, haha. But I set up some passkeys, too!

FRIDAY - SATURDAY
Did more mind-numbing work in downloading songs from YT, now. Managed to finish! Glad it’s over…

Alcina show #1 and #2, complete! My parents came to the first one and said they liked it 😊 also my mask broke a little but hopefully it'll hold up, haha.
mrsluigivargas: (Default)
SUNDAY
Apparently I won a raffle from Friday’s concert 😯 I get a $100 gift card for a local restaurant! Whoo!

Dad came over, so I got to wish him a happy Father’s Day in person 😀

In the meantime, I spent a solid chunk of the day going through and blocking people who had stupid DNIs in their bios/pinned. Gotta say, there's kind of a rush to it! Now everything I click on a blog and it doesn't have a blockade offense on it I get sad XD

MONDAY
The first of many Room Run and Tech week rehearsals today for the opera. Was a little late, getting there, but it didn't matter because they started late, anyway. All the performers were amazing, and this was just the cover cast!

Also, I brought my new tablet to test out how it feels in the wild. And it was a resounding success! Sure, I'll have to download a bunch of pdfs and google docs because I underestimated how annoying being without wifi would be, but that's a very fixable problem. The keyboard worked great (even though the fact it didn't have a trackpad was disorienting), and I got a lot typed and drawn up!

:( I’ve made a miscalculation with the new canvas painting I bought…I ordered a frame so I could frame it, but it turns out poster frames can't hold canvases! So I gotta find a canvas frame now. Whoopsies!

TUESDAY
My Nintendo Switch email arrived!!! I also bought a pro controller and a Yunobo amiibo, because I was already spending so much money so why not XD in hindsight I should have paid for express shipping so i could guarantee it came for my birthday, but whatever. Setting up an NS2 probably isn't the ideal birthday activity anyway, from what I've heard XD

Also there's definitely a God up there somewhere because this is the second time I ran late to the 6 o'clock opera rehearsal only to find they hadn't even started yet. I'm so glad I have the rest of the rehearsal days off work 😅

Also I went to the pizza place across the street for dinner between cues. This was a mistake. One slice and I was trapped in the bathroom for at least an aria and a half. Horrendous.

WEDNESDAY
My Switch 2 is on its way! It'll get here by the 23rd, USPS says, so crossing my fingers I'll get to open it on my birthday!

When coming home from work I decided to make a stop at Trader Joe's, because I realized that I don't eat very many sweets yet I'm always wandering around like “Man I wish I had a sweet treat right about now”. In returning home I found an alternate path that takes me past a nearby baseball field and a little bit around a nearby lake! I looked out on the water for a while, because I can. There was also a kid with a drone, and man now I suddenly understand why people don't want drones flying around. The noise sounded like angry bees, and it flew so far away, clean to the other side of the lake! That should be illegal!

THURSDAY
Needed to do laundry, so I drove back to my parent’s house!

Checked their smart TV and there were TWO Asterix movies! Asterix and Obelix: Mansion of the Gods and Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potion.

The Mansion of the Gods  one was the first one I watched, and it bored me so bad in the first two acts XD Definitely took a while to ramp up. But that third act! Wow!!!! It was so funny! I would personally die and kill for Mischiveus and his family, for real. I love that his dad's name is Anonymous, lmaoooo

The Secret of the Magic Potion wasn't as funny, but it flew by much faster. I don't know if it's because I quickly got used to the pacing of these movies in general or not. There's a tendency to drag jokes out just a liiiitle too long, and you could say I got better at recognizing when it was happening and fast forwarding through it. Again, that little girl, Pectin? So cute. And I loved the Roman shield mech at the end, lol.

FRIDAY
Sat criss-cross applesauce for a while and now my hips hurt :( I'm getting old and inflexible :(

Got to talk with Dad about the internet drama I've been surrounded by the past few weeks. I've probably already said this before, but I think that in order to have a safe space, you have to make it yourself. If fandom is a big bustling city, you have to chart it on your map, walk out a few miles, and then build a little cabin out there. Go back into the city once in a while to buy groceries or catch up with friends - and some of those friends may follow you back to your cabin! - and attend the community events you hear about via mail. But if you live in the city, then it'll suck the life right out of you. I've been seeing it happen more and more lately.

In other news, my Switch 2 is here!!!!! I rush-ordered a screen protector for it, so that should be here tomorrow. Then I can get started setting it up tomorrow or Sunday!!!

Having watched this production of Alcina play out a few times now, all I have to say is that they hate seeing a beautiful butch woman winning. If the lady wants her boytoy, then she should get her boytoy! So what if he's someone else's fiance? Not Alcina's fault she caught Bradamente slipping!!!

SATURDAY
I was supposed to put in my A/C for the upcoming heatwave and I didn't, lol. I've got all of tomorrow, though! Also I cleaned my room, and put the clothes I'm defo bringing to Denver in the suitcase!

And I set up my NS2! It was way less painful than people online made it sound, haha. I'll get to test it out tomorrow~

Also I finished the first draft of my birthday fic, which is NOT Beach Vacation, but is instead an aroallo!Bowuigi fic. Which will be the 69th fic I post to AO3 🤭

SUNDAY - MONDAY
Our second show! It was awesome! Definitely made some new and different little mistakes from last time lol

There was an afterglow for it at a restaurant but with everyone there, it was too loud for me. So when someone decided to leave to go get ice cream instead from down the street, I jumped on that opportunity XD I actually did something bold and exciting in NOT ordering vanilla ice cream; they had cinnamon toast crunch ice cream! I had it with rainbow sprinkles and white chocolate chips and it was very good! The only thing was they had little cinnamon toast crunch bits in the ice cream that were all cold and tough and weird to chew, haha.

And then we all (as in, the group I was car pooling with) went to get Korean food! I got a doldat bibimbap. It was OK, but also I wasn't that hungry so I didn't eat much. I ate the rest the next day and I I don't think I like it that much actually XD It's okay, but I'd rather have a good Drunken Noodle, you know?

Also I realized that I can make my own tablet backgrounds. Might invest some time into that, soon.

TUESDAY

I attended the condo annual meeting. I meant to last year but forgot, lol. It was very informative! Learned about new and exciting problems that I didn't even know existed until then, lmao.

Watched a few KingK videos while drying my hair. I like his perspective; at least if it's negative he clearly articulates why (in the videos I watched, anyway) but usually it's never super negative. Very level headed!

WEDNESDAY
Went to work, then straight to an a cappella event. We were singing on the street! I felt bad though, because I don't know as many songs as everyone else.

Afterwards we went to an Asian place that had Ramen and pho and Thai noodle soups. I got one of the Thai ones and it was good! Still don't know own how to use chopsticks though

Also a second callout post has hit the Mario fandom towers 💀 This one had a bit “TW Grooming” stamped on the bottom of it, describing events that happened…*squints*...EIGHT YEARS AGO. Honestly. But anyway, I got some more people to block, mostly for being kind of disrespectful to the op? Like, they posted their whole story to DeviantArt, describing all the sketchy behavior, and there was nothing but sympathies from the commenter. But on Tumblr its, “oh I should have known the incest liker grooms minors 🤮” and it's like. Hello. There's a victim here. Maybe you should extend sympathies to them???? But anyway long story short I did some poking around and given this was a one-off incident from LITERALLY ALMOST A DECADE AGO that's not part of a larger behavioral pattern nor is happening recently AND the accused seems to be taking ownership of and accountability for their past sins, it's a big “Whatever, man” from me. The world keeps turning.

THURSDAY

Doing work at work but I kept almost getting distracted by continuing to try and improve the database I've built XD The more I use it the more I find things to change…!

Also I started actually writing Beach Vacation, instead of re-outlining it. Past-me was quite thorough with the details for the first chunk of it. The only thing was that I procrastinated starting it for an hour ‘cause she'd deigned the opening line of the whole fic to be a Hotel Mario reference XD

Said procrastination was me playing the demo of Word Play, which is a very cute game that I'm getting low-key addicted to, lmao. Even if I do end up cheating by the 7th or 8th round, lmao

FRIDAY
Just got the schedule for next week's opera chorus rehearsals and UGH. I have no evenings!!! 🙃 I knew this would fuck with my fic-writing plans but damn. Well at least this is the only time I'll ever be in a theater production in my life. One and then done!

(That reminds me though I need to review all the blocking because I couldn't be there when we learned it)

Wrote more of Beach Vacation! Despite this, I am lowkey addicted to Word Play. T_T

The main reason I can't actually quit the chorale: people are happy to see me OTL. Past me could only dream of being regarded like this…! I went to their Pops concert and it was great, even with the chaos of the COVID mini-outbreak. The orchestra played a Hamilton medley, which was cool and would have been cooler if I knew any Hamilton songs XD

SATURDAY
A cappella retreat day! Sang all day and now my voice is tired~ There also was an activity where we made parody songs and I could feel myself getting a little too into it ^^; Got to take a shit ton of food home at the end of the day, though. Burgers, hotdogs, half a watermelon…even some eggs!

My brother got his Switch 2! He says that Mario Kart Wii is Peak, compared to World.

With all the fandom drama that's happened around me recently, the phrase “safe space” is lowkey starting to piss me off. Like. It's such a passive sentiment, I think. If you want a safe space then do the work to make it so. You can't rely on others to do it and then get mad when that's not their priority. And also people do the most insane unsafe shit to enforce safe spaces. Like “oh, you did some fuckshit 8 years ago and are taking accountability for it? Die.” “You stuck your foot in your mouth one time? Well I'm gonna stock this foot up your ass as I kick you tf out of here 🤪”

A facilitator we had at work talked about a “brave space” instead of a safe space and I like that context a lot better. Be brave enough to speak in first draft or admit to a mistake, be brave enough to call someone out on that, be brave enough to own up to your missteps, be brave enough to work together to hold each other accountable, etc.

Anyway, I'm gonna go on a blocking spree tomorrow I think. There's only like 3 or 4 people at most that I give a shit about tbh. And none of them are on the chopping block.

SUNDAY
For lack of anything else to listen to while I showered, I started listening to Sonic and Tails R. It’s cool that there are official voice actors in there. The Tails VA is doing a pretty good job, too. One thing that drove me a bit crazy, though, was all the references they were making. It feels so obnoxious XD. I liked the joke about Shadow being a GUN superior, though. Took a while for the set-up to click into place, but when it did I HOWLED it was so funny. I almost don't care about what Sonic and Tails and Eggman are doing anymore; I just wanna watch Shadow discipline his subordinates XD

It’s also very trope-y/very early 2000s Sonic game. Hard to get into it when it’s like “this is the part Tails gets sad” “this is the part when Eggman starts yapping about how he’s winning” “this is Tails’ inspirational speech and reinforcement of the main theme of the work” “this is Eggman going against the theme of the work to emphasize it” “Sonic is about to burst in to save the day aaaaaany minute now…”. But that’s probably just a me problem.

MONDAY
The thing about this opera chorus gig is that the music isn't very hard and also I don't even think it's all that important to be 100% accurate with it, in the end. I sorta knew this going in — my real goal with it was to experience being onstage in a proper show. Because I never did theater and I'm hardly gonna get a chance like this again. So anyway we did some practice with walking on and off stage singing  among other things. Including fake-talking in the background. It feels very ridiculous to do 😅

TUESDAY
TIL Kool-aid + Seltzer water goes hard, actually. It's like Kool-aid soda!

Watched another baseball game; SF Giants vs Padres. It was the Giants game to lose and they fucking lost it at the last minute. Fucking Miller and that other guy who's name I dont remember (Doval?). I'm actually kinda heated about it, lol.

In better news, I finished the first round of editing on the sex pollen fic! I just need to do a final read through, and also come up with a title. Somehow.

WEDNESDAY
Not sure how I ended up dreaming about a Vlad Masters-ish character x a himbo dad a la the Fairly Oddparents one or Jack Fenton in some imaginary house my brain claimed was Joe Hills’, but the human brain is strange sometimes! Also there was an interlude where Grian and Jimmy were ribbing about a book one of them had picked up that matched what Joe had in a picture.

Got my first Animal Crossing Alarmo alarm (an extra half-hour late because I don't have to go into the office today!! It was the fishing tourney. The Hurry-Up sound is wasps chasing you! So I'm assuming the alarm time-out sound will be you getting stung and whatever sad jingle that plays there. The getting out of bed sound for them is you catching the wasps!

The UI for the Animal Crossing alarm is curious, though. Love the pale green on the Next Alarm module, but the clock itself is hard to read. The other scenes have big giant bubble numbers; this one they're printed white on light brown square tiles. Makes it hard to read from far away. Also the hourly chime is…meh. I was lowkey hoping for my own Town Tune XD it feels weirdly discordant, in a way

Apparently a Minecraft streamer I watch (Skizzleman) refused to say “trans rights” on command on stream citing that it was “political”. This is really funny to me for reasons I cannot explain. I think one of the reasons why is that I found this out through a Tumblr post that was like multiple 100s of words and had highlighted, read text that was like “guys. I know it's hard but I don't think he's transphobic. But he's just an old white man in his 40s. And he's, you know, doesn't really comprehend what he was saying” and blah blah blah and it's just a really funny way to find out, genuinely. I can't say it's not that serious, cause like.  I am not blorbo-pilled. I am not hyperfixation-maxxed. And I also, you know, knew that they are a bunch of 40-year-old cis straight white men so I did not have the expectation that they were all square on every social justice issue of the modern Tumblrite.  So it just comes off as really really, really silly. But I mean, someone will talk to him off screen and sort out why he should or shouldn't say those things over in the modchat or whatever. maybe Cleo will show up and kick his butt about it — who knows? But I don't know. I don't got that parasocial juice in me.

In other news, I finally got my fic title! 🎉🎉🎉 And it's a fun play on words!!!

And I think the sleepy sounds for Animal Crossing Alarmo is the dream sharing song? Makes sense for the theme, and for why i don't recognize it XD

THURSDAY
I got to take a few minutes to chat for a little bit with a co-worker I haven't had one on one time with a very long time and it was cute and fun!

There was a little potluck, before choir rehearsal started, and somebody brought gluten free cupcakes and they were actually kind of fire, which is hilarious because they're gluten-free. But you know, we take those wins sometimes. There was also someone else who brought chocolate from Ghana which was very not sweet which made me sad but it's fine!

While driving to the store afterwards, I remembered that freezing grapes is a thing you can do so I think I'm gonna be freezing some grapes tomorrow and we'll see how that goes.

The situation with Skizzleman has developed. He has apologized on YouTube and deleted some comments and maybe there was a server meeting about it and also apparently some of his moderators are right-wing Twitter users which is a whole different ball game that I am not qualified to comment on. Yikes.

I should probably have put my air conditioner in because it's hot overnight. But I'm really lazy and I think I can survive like the 3 days it will be hot for. my brother has his own AC that he just going so that's fun for him.I'm a little bit jealous , but I'll survive

Also I decided I'm not going into the office tomorrow. Because I don't think I need to. I'll just take home a stupid amount of returned mail and such Next Wednesday it will be great

FRIDAY
All this time worrying about having to learn to torrent so I can pirate the Murderbot Diaries audiobooks, and it turns out people have uploaded them to YouTube in full. Wow! Convenient for me!!!

Okok i know this is the 3rd day of Minor Streamer Drama but i just wanted to highlight excerpts from a very well spoken fan about it
"also going to go on the record that the reason I’m not that upset about all this when there’s a bunch of valid reasons is that mcyt is not my space for trans activism. I have not “lost” skizz as my safe space because he was never my safe space. he’s just my favorite guy." [X]

"If this is all a devastating ordeal, please take this as hopefully the hardest lesson that the content creators themselves are not the safe space: it’s the people in that safe space. If Skizz doesn’t want to say “trans rights”, find people that will scream it for you. Fandoms and cc’s will rise and fall, but friendships and bonds can last FAR beyond that. THAT is your home. Your blorbo is simply the 30 posters you glue to the wall." [X]

I know I wanted to write Beach Vacation for my birthday but I'm also really in the mood to write trans!Peach and the Bowser/Luigi attempted date aftermath fic. What I ended up doing is downloading a bunch of images from the Mario wiki so that maybe I can make some icons about the few queer Mario hcs I have (e.g. Apl!Rosalina, Aroallo!Luigi, Trans!Kamek, Trans!Peach).

Finished Sonic and Tails R! The ending was really cute and fun~ especially the way they capped off Tails’ character arc! There was even a whole original song in there! Added that to my playlist for sure!

And I finally posted the sex pollen fic!!!! Yay!!!

SATURDAY
Worked on the icons this morning. I gathered a bunch of pride flags together for the backgrounds. Some of them were harder to find than others but it went okay overall.

We had the first of our two a cappella shows today and it went amazing! Though I'm a little bit sad about having to wear the same outfit today as in the row. But you know we’re adults we’ll survive.

Also it was raining so hard. I came back home and the parking lot was completely flooded it was completely absurd. They literally repaved the parking lot to prevent flooding and it flooded anyway. Why are we paying all this money to the HOA if nothing’s gonna happen for it like goddamn it, man!

I've gotten a comment on my fic. It's from the person that was expecting a comment from more or less. But still it was very big and fun and they really liked it. So yay!

SUNDAY
Today's sermon was about trees! (learning patience and such from them) It was cool!

We had our Chamber Chorus concert today. It was super-duper scuffed, but we made it through and everyone in the audience loved it! I went to the after party and unfortunately remembered that I actually do like hanging out with these people T_T so quitting the group might be too much for me T_T Maybe I’ll just be super obnoxious in my mask wearing instead. Make everyone feel bad. So that means I should order a few more singing masks, then. Too bad that the Airgami masks went out of business; I love those! I should have ordered them in bulk before they ran out of stock…oh well!

In other news, I FINALLY got to send a gift card through MealTrain.com for a bell choirmate. For some reason Firefox browser hates processing my transactions. Wish I knew why. But I did a good deed! Yay!

MONDAY
Went on a shopping adventure to Sam’s Club and back~ Also got a Sam’s Club hot dog, and the soda that came with it. The only good soda there was Mountain Dew, so I had a tall cup of Mountain Dew while shopping, lol

I’m a bit worried about how gunked up my right ear/sinuses are. My eye hurts a little, from it. Gonna try some Zertec-D or maybe the old Sinex I have, if it isn't expired. (Edit: it's expired 😞)

I do still wanna print Metal Masquerade so I can physically write on it and mark it up for comments. It’ll be a lot of printer ink, but it's not like we’re printing much in this house, anyway. I just need a way to bind it all, because I sure as hell won't be able to staple it. I might buy a book binding machine for it…

TUESDAY
Got to play RingFit for the first time in ages! I missed it :)

Thought about the bookbinding Metal Masq thing some more and realized I was being stupid. I can just print it all, holepunch it with the big hole puncher at work, and then put it all in a 3 ring binder. It'll make for a good offline thing to go through for my upcoming flight to Denver! And  I can still buy the bookbinding machine in July, to use to bind my longer fics while I can booklet print my shorter ones!

WEDNESDAY
The new database at work is still being cumbersome and weird. I had to practically fistfight a thing to get it to work. I figured it out, though!

Spent ALL day out of the house between work and a cappella choir's dress rehearsal for our show. Had a burrito, also. It was good! There were some plantains in it~ it's been a while since I had plantains; the prep and cook time was a little too big to make them at home (had to bring out the deep fryer for it, and that was its own ordeal)

Saw a bumper sticker on the way home: “Keep Honking! I'm busy listening to Mannequin Pussy's 2016 Masterpiece Romantic”. They're an indie American rock band, apparently. Happy to report that their music is rather good!

THURSDAY - FRIDAY
Having actual responsibility at work is stressful (being in charge of the Access database project). On the bright side, I successfully got the thing to work that needed to work! Now everyone else gets to do the workflow, and I get to be stressed about if it’ll crap out at the last second and make me look bad! It hasn't so far!

SATURDAY
Went to a social event for a cappella where we made little hand puppets with beads and string for our upcoming show. So kind of like Oobi. It was really fun to be crafty in a physical way. Those three hours flew by! And then I got to take the extra pizza and soda home!

Also I finally finished the draft of the sex pollen fic, thank goodness…Things should progress faster now!
mrsluigivargas: (Default)
SUNDAY
Our Reverend’s last sermon today :( Got to hug her, though! She said she couldn't tell if I was waiting or just aloof, lmao. I don't think I've ever been described as aloof, before…Regardless, she liked my sunglasses :)

I called Dad! He’s coming home next weekend! Got to tell him about the car and about my choir troubles. It was nice.

Finished crossposting my fic posts to Dreamwidth! 🎉 I’ll need to edit the tags on my journal at some point, though. Make all the fics instead of going in the fandom tag go in a “my writing: fics: [FANDOM]” tag. I’ll also have to redo my pinned posts and profile and interests at some point, too.

MONDAY - WEDNESDAY
Must have been all the work I did last weekend, but this Monday and Tuesday don't feel like Monday nor Tuesday. Tuesday had a dentist appointment for me, though! And Chamber Choir rehearsal!

Speaking of Chamber Choir, I think taking a break from Chorale will be good for two reasons:

1) I’m feeling a bit burnt out right now; I was feeling myself starting to get cranky all through a cappella rehearsal today, and
b) I’m still mad about the COVID thing. I thought I was over it, but I’m not. I was seething all throughout rehearsal yesterday, lmao. Send help.

THURSDAY
I feel like it's an incredibly…interesting choice to have Animal Crossing Alarms for the Alarmo and have none of them be any of the hourly songs.

I was vaguely tempted to go to Anime Boston, but the Saturday pass is $80 and I was already going to go to a block party that day. I’d rather spend the $80 to support local Black businesses than spend it at AB and then spend another $200 on top of that in the Artist’s Alley.

FRIDAY
Half-day Fridays start at work today~! Used the extra time to write my fic up to the next scene! It’s still interesting how the pacing has changed from what I envisioned. I should totally be able to finish the draft this weekend!

Ended the night reading the most hysterical reply to a Peach R34 WIP on Bluesky:

spoilered for NSFW text )

I will think about this forever, thanks.

SATURDAY
Went to the block party! It was raining the whole time! I bought $100 of earrings I’ll probably never wear! It’s good to support local businesses~

And then in the evening I watched a baseball game in a Discord call! That was fun. I hadn't watched baseball in a long time. Since 2018, I think, with a Red Sox game that lasted 13 innings and went on until like 1 AM. This game had the San Francisco Giants!
mrsluigivargas: (Default)
SUNDAY
Church was great! I got to do my little solo, and there were some killer violinists (and a pianist!) that did the other music today; their band is Scottish Fish, apparently. They were awesome! So in sync! And during the Time for All Ages the Rev told a little Mother’s Day story that admittedly got me in my feels a little…I’m a sucker for repetition and things coming full circle in stories…

(I’ll love you forever
I’ll like you for always
As long as I’m living
my baby you’ll be~)

And then there was cake afterwards! And people complimented me on my solo, and I had a nice chat with some people!

And then I called Mom, obviously, and we chatted for a while. She’s watching Lord of the Rings, apparently? She seemed to like it so far.

And then I cleaned the kitchen AND the bathroom! Didn't mop the floors, though. I’ll do that some other day. And also I figured out that our air filter wasn't working because the pre-filters hadn't been cleaned in years 🙂

Anyway I ordered myself some Thai food as a reward for a good day!

MONDAY
The new database of records at work finally went live! Its confusing, but we'll all get the hang of it eventually~

In other news, all the dust from yesterday's air filter cleaning set my allergy recovery back by a bunch :( But also more people from Chorale are down with Covid - including our choir director (she tested negative but still “feels horrid”). Enough Chamber Chorus People have been hit that they are looking to reschedule our concert this Friday :/ How annoying. Now I gotta tell the barbershop folks who wanted to attend that the dates changed.

Today was the first Opera chorus rehearsal that I could attend (I'm 3 or so weeks behind). Despite only really drilling the music on Saturday, I knew it well enough to sing. Better than some folks who'd been there the whole time, even (that one guy kept throwing me off, loudly singing wrong notes…)! I’d decided to take transit there, because driving into the city sucks. I ran to the bus stop, not wanting to be late, but not only did I not need to run, because the bus wasn't leaving for another 5–10 minutes, but also running down a bike path arced by very green trees set off my allergies :( this time, my nose is stuffed up! It was dripping during rehearsal :) lucky I still had my chorus mask to wear.

Anyway, it's looking like all the other rehearsals I had lined up for this week are gonna be cancelled, so I guess that's more time for RingFit and fanfic!

TUESDAY
Did I give my coworkers maybe-covid? Maybe. I'm mostly annoyed my brother’s got a sore throat too, though. And I'm mad but also sad because I'm gonna have to quit the choir. I deserve better than yearly covid scares.

Good news, though: I get to test the Access database I've been working on at work with real data now! So close to showing it to everyone!

WEDNESDAY
I would have had rehearsal today but…*looks at the camera*

Regardless, I’m slowly coming to terms with the fact that I'll have to quit this choir 💔 it's a good group of folks, I promise. But unless there's a new mandatory masking policy, I refuse to play roulette anymore!

I posted my newest fic! The “Let Peach Say Fuck” one. I couldn't think of a better title ^^;

THURSDAY
Almost done with the database at work! Just a few last tweaks…!

I tried to find non-liquid cough medicine for my brother for the cough I gave him, because he's a baby who hates the taste of medicine. It turns out the chewable tablets I bought him still taste like Robotussin 😒🙄 oh well. I bought him cough drops, too. It sucks to hear him coughing in the next room, and it sucks that I’m part of the reason why 🙁 With all the talk about quitting choir, though, if something makes me quit bell choir I will legitimately sob. I love being there…they appreciate me…

FRIDAY
The access database I've been working on for the past few weeks is live! I hope the team likes it 🙂

I made a whole bunch of progress on the Dreamwidth crossposting. I did all the simple text posts in the Tumblr post archives. Only a little bit to go! The end is in sight!

Also I (apparently) completely beefed the chance to be a good online friend today. I legit saw the vent post, went “oh no! anyway,” and went to go finish dinner 😭 why do I always do this 😭 it’s for real like that one Garfield meme with the wanted poster or something. “I wonder who that’s for?” I just always assume I’m not involved in anything happening, especially online 😭

I was about to go to bed but then out of nowhere found out that AO3 CANONIZED THE NONVERBAL MARIO TAG?????? WHEN DID THEY DO THIS!!!! Literally started crying oh my gosh!!!! This doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things but I am so delighted that this tag is filterable now. I’m gonna have to go back and retag a bunch of stuff, both to make it all look official and also because I double-tagged some stuff as both Nonverbal and Mute Mario because the Mute Mario tag was filterable while the Nonverbal tag wasn’t. But now that they're both filterable, then I can get rid of the mute Mario tag! I am so so happy…! First the aro and ace Mario tags, and now this…this is MY YEAR!!!!!!

SATURDAY
A few of my a cappella choir mates are also in a different a cappella choir, so I went to their show! It was really good! Also, while I was driving to the show all the brake lights in the car came on at once! I don't know what to do about that! I guess I’ll drive my brother’s car for now!

And I finished the Tumblr Post Archive part of the Dreamwidth Crossposting Project! 🎉

mrsluigivargas: (Default)
SUNDAY
Church was nothing remarkable. Honestly I zoned out for most of it making up self-ship fanfic in my head, lmao. But I had a chorale concert today! It was really fun. I think I entered some sort of fugue state during the last movement. Or maybe it was because of how hot and muggy it was in the room.

I was also convinced to go to the afterparty, and it was a fun time! Chatted with some folks! I had to walk to the house in my heels though XD luckily someone gave me a ride back to my car! In was getting worried because after so much walking and standing in those shoes I was feeling my ankle start to twinge.

MONDAY - WEDNESDAY
You know when they talk about supporting your friends and family or whatever, and how their burdens are your burdens or what have you, im not sure they were talking about “entire morning routine upended because dumbass brother forgot his house keys on his first day at work. To be fair, my phone didn't ring when it needed to. But still.

Our work retreat starts today! Its in a forest cabin-place, so upon arrival my tonsils were immediately kicking up a fuss because allergies were a thing. This is the same thing that happened late last year when I went to Maine forest cabin. I thought I had Covid then, lmao. And then i went to urgent care and they were like ‘nah”

Then again, I got an email as we started the drive that someone from the concert yesterday had covid. So. (I hate chorale, actually). The tests showed up negative for me though!

But yeah this was three-ish days of hanging out with coworkers and doing structured activities. The food was really good! The bedrooms were meh. My bed was next to the heater so I was getting dry hot air blowing on me all night (which didn't help my sore throat at all). And the pillows were a touch too tall.

And also there was a cute thing everyone did on the final day where they all went outside for a group primal scream session. I didn't do it because it wouldn't have served me and also I still had a cappella rehearsal later and my throat still hurt a little.

THURSDAY
I volunteered for a solo in choir~ The director was impressed at the low notes I hit, hehe. Also apparently singing loudly/clearly with a mask on is remarkable? At least some of the other folks in the choir seemed to think so.

Also my new phone case came in. The old one was fine, but the bumpy texture at the bottom was irritating the skin on my pointer finger. This new case looks like a galaxy, and it even goes in the dark!

FRIDAY
Hit a wall during Access stuff - annoying and disheartening :( I will overcome, though!

There was a seminar about deconstructing love today at work - which was cool! But also I shared a personal thing and got no feedback on it so it felt bad! And how bad it felt distracted me from the rest of the session. It also made me want to go look at the loveless/lovequeer readings I have, too, to refresh them in my head.

So today was just…kind bad, haha ^^;

SATURDAY
I actually started learning my music for opera choir! Gotta cram it for Monday 😬

Also went to buy my Zertec-D for my ears/throat! Went to the Walgreens near me for it first; took the car and immediately felt bad that I wasn't helping the environment by walking instead, on top of parking in that small lot being a nightmare (so many people at 3pm on a Saturday! Only for the Walgreens to not have Zertec-D XD Vindication! I went to CVS to get it there~

Also I learned today that “cuddle pollen” exists, as a variant of sex pollen. Not only is that awesome, it's a major breakthrough for my fic! I was having trouble figuring out how to obfuscate the non-sex part of the sex pollen rules I'm using, and this landed in my lap! The fic the article quoted cited dopamine and oxytocin as the real targets of the pollen, so I can use that to make my pollen more multifaceted.

SUNDAY
Had a guest speaker in church today! Here’s some of their points:
  • Start at the edges of something, work steadily little my little, and you can take care of it 🙂
  • “I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.” — Edward Everett Hale
Also we played bells and everyone liked it 🙂

Played Frantic Fanfic in a Discord call. Not only was it fun, people were nice to me and my writing 🥹. Someone followed me on Tumblr, even, haha. Means a lot during a time when the Mario movie hype’s truly died and I’m not getting comments anymore :)

MONDAY
Listened to the first hour or so of All Systems Red! Couldn't give it my 100% attention because I was driving, but I got most of it, and it's really good so far!

Going to my parent’s house because I gotta get my new retainer at 11am tomorrow, and it’s easier to stay there tonight! Forgot my retainer at home though :( at least I’m getting a new one tomorrow :(

TUESDAY

Everything today was almost timed perfectly. Morning imports at work took short enough that I could finish them before I left the house; I got back from getting my new retainer soon enough not to miss my meeting, with time to grab lunch to boot.

It's just that I was a bit late to rehearsal. And then the snacks I bought for it ended up not being eaten, because it was a surprise rehearsal. Oh well. More food for me!

Kept listening to Murderbot and its getting good! I am a little less enthused about reading the whole series now that I've looked ahead and seen a 13 hour audio book down the pipeline ^^; but hopefully the first book is enough to understand all the fandom jokes now?

…Also I'm already like low-key exhausted with it, somehow XD It’s been a while since I’ve read a proper book! Apparently this one’s a little under 40k words. So my exhaustion makes a little sense, I think; Metal Masquerade Chapter 1 is 44k and that one made me so tired (in a good way) that I had to literally physically lay on the floor afterwards. And Down is around 96k and I started to flag rereading it 7/9 of the way through. But other fanfic you read updates over time; I looked at a recently updated fic in my inbox I've been following for a year or so and it's over 150k. So the exhaustion doesn't hit as much.

WEDNESDAY
The bus came so late this morning OTL It’s a good thing I dont have to be at work at 9 sharp…

I could have finished the Murderbot book today, but I didn't. I think I need a break from it; the thought of putting it back on is exhausting to me, for some reason. I think I like listening to audiobooks while I'm driving, when I have no choice to listen to it, instead of otherwise, when it's like “why don't I switch this to music I can dance to?” Unfortunately, I don't have very many longer driving trips scheduled before I have to return the audiobook. Maybe I’ll take it in tiny 10 minute chunks after all…

I’ve been watching REPO streams, surprisingly. Not my kind of game, but watching Skizzleman and co. play it has been very entertaining. Especially ‘cause Skizz keeps dying XD The monsters don't bother me too too much, either. They’re still gross and scary, though.

My Steamdeck’s coming in tomorrow! All the accessories I’d bought had come in on Monday, so I might wait till then to set it up.

THURSDAY
My tinnitus is acting up, in a different way than it usually does :( hoping it's a sinus/earwax problem and not something terrible…!

My Steam Deck came in!!!!!! Earlier in the day than expected!!!!

Did I show up late to rehearsal and almost cry in my car trying and failing to find a parking spot in the very full lot? Maybe. But that's between you and me, you hear?

FRIDAY
It rained last night! I heard it through my open window~ there was even a little thunder and lightning!

Not me getting a bit emotional during work about our last day in this database before moving to our new one…today was my last morning import…🥺

…also I think I have a sore throat, now. Will monitor.

SATURDAY
I took Benadryl the night before for my ear and it knocked me tf out, wow. I was planning on going to a Spring Cleaning thing at church but I guess not; my 9:40 alarm woke me up, instead of me waking up before it!

Finished All Systems Red! That ending was so very obviously aspec-coded lmaooo no wonder the girlies latched onto this series so hard. I think this is the first proper book I’ve finished since Good Omens in 2019. I want to get the next audiobook, but the wait time is…“several months” OTL. I was thinking of going somewhere to buy the audiobooks, so I could listen to them at my own pace, but I have no idea how to do that, yet.

SUNDAY
Today was Easter service, so parking was a bit of an ordeal, haha. Got around to cleaning my room, afterwards, though :D (mostly)

Also played a little Xenoblade X for the first time in a while! This game still drives me a bit crazy. I'm sure once we start peeling back the layers of Elma's backstory the plot will finally start to get good, but for now… :/

MONDAY
Finally touched base with a coworker about my Microsoft Access project., and they love what I’ve done so far! Hurrah!

Also made a spreadsheet to track progress on backdating all my posts I’ve ever made onto Dreamwidth. Hopefully it’ll be something I can plug away at for an hour or so every few days. I even found a cool website template to use, that’s much better than the one I’ve been using for my Neocities project. So when I get to that phase of things, I think I’ll start over with the website, using that template and hooking it up to Git for a better workflow.

(...This is definitely a way to put off starting that sex pollen fic. But it’s fine!)

TUESDAY
I’m really digging this Access database work project now, haha. Showed my supervisor some of it, and she was super impressed~ I’m going to have to probably use the VB side of things, though. Which is a little bit scary. But all I really need is an if/then statement. How hard could that be?

Baked some chicken for dinner (hey future me, it’s 425 degrees F for 35-38 minutes, btw). Problem was that chicken had been in the fridge for like. A week and a half. So it came out smelling funny. I didn't trust it, so I threw it all out XD went to the store and got some frozen chicken spring rolls instead.

I’d ordered a hair dryer thing and I got to test it tonight! It’s like a big cap you put on and then you stick your hair dryer into a tube and blow the hot air. Definitely beats standing in the bathroom holding the hair dryer myself, and more compact than one of those hair dryer space helmets. I tried it on warm air/low speed but it barely did anything after 30 minutes; I cranked it to High heat and it was starting to hurt the skin behind my ears. So I think using it on High heat, low speed for half an hour with a headband on my head to block the hot air on my skin should do it for me in the future. I just need my hair to be dry before bed.

WEDNESDAY
I figured out what objects in VB are called! I’m unstoppable now!!!!!

With the leftover meat from the stuffed peppers, I finally made some meat pies! I’ve been wanting to try making them for forever. Putting it all together was tricky, but I got the hang of it after a few slightly-off ones, haha. And they came out great! I’m excited to try ones with a chicken or vegetable filling. Beef is fine, but I have the feeling I shouldn't eat too much of it.

Lightly browned meat pies, 4 of them

Also, two separate people commented that they liked my shirt and that it was suited for springtime (it’s bright blue). How strange, but fun!

Jenkins’ Adiemus is quite frankly the most exhausting piece of music I’ve ever sang. We’re only doing half of it in chorale and my jaw hurts by the end. It’s lucky it’s an absolute bop.

And whenever I post to Dreamwidth I always find myself fighting with the post maker about bullet lists in readmores. Every time. In other news, got all the Google Keep blurbs up! 🎉

THURSDAY
I’d wanted to make my garlic bread box mix to have for dinner along with my meat pies. The box said ready in 1 hour. It took 2. And after all that, they came out bad. I think it's because I used salted butter instead of unsalted butter. The bread didn't rise! 😞 AND it made me late to choir 😞

Pull-apart garlic bread that enver rose, photographed with its box

Still, for my first time handling bread dough it was kinda fun!

FRIDAY
Bought the Steam Deck! I wanted it to go through my credit card but PayPal sent it through my debit card instead :( Oh well!

I’ve been having lots of fun figuring out VB at work, hehe. Wasted an hour and a half figuring out validation rules~

I also sat down and finally started the pseudo-sex pollen fic. I’ve got half a loose outline, now. The narrative voice I’ve chosen for Bowser is very loose and silly.

Been having a headache yesterday and today; did a RingFit session and the headache went away. The rest of it will be fixed by sleeping, I’m sure. Which is difficult, because it’s starting to get too warm to sleep without a fan 🙁

SATURDAY
Set an alarm for the morning to ensure I wouldn't rot in bed until noon and it worked! I got the stupid Pikmin disco legs alarm today, but it worked!

Spent the morning putting my keychains on my wall! I'll do the pins some other day. I also cleaned under my bed a little~

A photo of a wall with a corkboard of keychains and some framed posters of Mario characters

The main Discord server I hang out in is having a server anniversary party that I attended a few events for. We played a 25-person Gartic Phone round, which was super fun! There was also a game of Um, Actually, which I only spectated. Which was good, because not only do I not know enough about Ace Attorney to answer the questions anyway, the voice call ended up kind of overstimulating for me. Tomorrow is Day 2 of the celebrations, so we’ll see how that goes!

My hold for the All Systems Red audiobook came in! I’ve got 14 days to listen to it; it's only 3 hours long, though! Now’s my time to get into the Murderbot Diaries series! Whoo!!!

SUNDAY
I need to stay at my parent’s house for a medical appointment at my old orthodontist. Within minutes of stepping into our house they gift me a scale unprompted and get on me for not doing chores around my house. Off to a great start. But then again, I got to eat a nice burrito so 🙂

Also I figured out how to grind money in Tomodachi Life so things are about to get a bit more tolerable, I’ll bet.

In the meantime, the big task for today was cleaning up all my logins! I moved to 1Password so I wanted to take the opportunity. I archived old ones, consolidated duplicates, etc. The next step is to update the ones that have weak or repeated passwords! \(^o^)/

MONDAY
I went to my retainer appointment, but I have to come back in 2 weeks for the actual retainer :( Annoying!

Before I went home, I watched Dad get a free consultation for window replacements of the house. The guy seemed nice. He estimated $24k for two big windows + a door, though. Dad wasn't impressed by that XD

TUESDAY
For the record, the Tomodachi Life proposal minigame being skill based makes me really really mad.

Also based on that and some stuff people were saying in the Discord, I have come to the conclusion that making this game aro-friendly cant be done by just putting a button that makes Miis aro into the game. I wrote a little draft of an essay about it that I'll polish later this week.

All that to say, I’m done playing TL, I think XD I gave it a chance, but it’s not for me! Miitopia is superior!

In other news (work), apparently duplicating rows in Microsoft Access is super tricky :/ I’ll figure it out, though! I know I can!

WEDNESDAY
The downside to typing my little essay in LibreOffice instead of Google Docs is that I can't constantly stare at it in delight and distract myself, lol. And oh, do I need that distraction, because I’m starting to get sour about the fact I have so many things to do but not any time to do them between work and choir :’(

Speaking of choir, I went to a cappella chorus rehearsal and the after-rehearsal gathering and felt like a competent human who knows how to socialize and have conversations! That's good! This group is good at making me feel that way~

THURSDAY
The fact that the Mario Kart World direct was only 20 minutes makes me laugh. It was cool, though!

I’m realizing for the nth time that the church choir/bell choir is way below my skill level, lmao. I’m sitting there and I’m thinking, “you know, I’m a member of an award-winning chorus. And here I am, in a choir where the director has to tell everyone to sing louder constantly and explain how to sing grace notes.” At least the community choir the music is a little complex, but this stuff is smoother than easy street XD. And something that’s starting to bug me is that I don't get any recognition for it. Not that I’m obligated to get any, and maybe it's because the rehearsals are only an hour long and the choir is hella mid, but. It’s still rather thankless T-T

It’s similar with bell choir; I wish we could do a piece as complicated as Defying Gravity again, but everyone else was so stressed out about that song that one person literally dropped out. So. But at least with that one the group’s so small that I still get my flowers once in a while, hehe.

FRIDAY
I figured out how to duplicate rows in Access 😎 all it took was some SQL!

Finally got to do RingFit! I hate that my schedule’s made it near weekly as of late. I really do enjoy this game a lot. I also got to flesh out my little essay tonight~ And take some dishes out of the sink! And I bought a new comb to use to detangle my hair while conditioning it, and it turns out it was Bad. Oh well! I’ll only have to suffer suboptimal curls for a few days until I wash it again!

Also, I’ve decided. I’m going to buy both the SteamDeck and the Nintendo Switch 2. I was thinking about it; the SteamDeck is objectively the better deal, but I really want the Switch 2! So I am going to be Unwise. Nothing can go wrong! 😀

SATURDAY
Went this morning to a choir mate’s yard sale; found a UHD monitor and got it for $100! Also got a cast iron pan and some picture frames, hehe. On the way home I took a wrong turn, accidentally ran a red light, almost took another wrong turn, and almost hit a car trying to get out of the wrong lane I was in so I wouldn't take that wrong turn. I am the driver people talk about when they say they hate cars.

I took the sheet music for the opera chorus project I’m a part of and put it all into MuseScore to make my own practice tracks; I think there are practice tracks available from the director, but I’ve no idea where to find those. The native PDF-to-MuseScore converter sped up the process, even if it was far from perfect in its execution (the first two scores it converted made corrupted files, lol). Anyway, I’m not going to be able to attend opera chorus rehearsals until mid-May, so I should get started learning the music now. It’s meant to be memorized, after all.

Did a little RingFit again. They made me do Mountain Climbers and my thighs started hurting, so I called the session early, lmao. It’s a consecutive day, anyway.

I made my
Stuffed Peppers recipe again! I feel like I’m putting the peppers in the oven for too long; you’d think the pepper would want to be firm, so you can grab it, but it just squishes and falls apart in my hands :( had to eat it with a fork and knife in the end, lmao. Surely I’m missing something… It tasted really good, though!

…Still haven't cleaned my room, though. Tomorrow!

SUNDAY - TUESDAY
Came home from my parent’s house today! But I forgot my dinner leftovers from the Event yesterday in their fridge :( hope they enjoy the flatbread and pita bread I guess!

I finally put my hacked 3DS to good use and got Tomodachi Life. First of all, I now know why everyone yaps about pirating games so much; that was so easy. Second of all, I'm starting to see in greater clarity why the discord server i’m in is so excited for the new Tomodachi Life game. I kept playing it into Tuesday; though the sheen gradually wore off with time. When the new game comes out with its inevitable $70-80 price tag, will I buy it? Honestly, maybe not. But I’m still having fun! It kind of just makes me wanna replay Miitopia, tbh, though.

Meanwhile, I got back into RingFit after a week off! And I’m so close to finishing my fic; I just need a title OTL and that AI title generation site is absolutely no help this time…

WEDNESDAY
Oh look at that, I’m sore from RingFit :(

I was thinking of buying a cute Eustace Winner charm, but shipping cost $35. I love Eustace — he's one of my favorite Ace Attorney characters — but he is not worth the $50 total price, lmao. Look at him, though! He’s so cute!

A Fanthful plush keychain of Eustace Winner from Ace Attorney Investigations 2

I also posted my fic today! The title hit me as I was coming home from work, haha. Because of course it did. And then I cleaned my room a little bit! Yay!

THURSDAY
The people in church choir noticed my haircut :) they was also shocked and appalled at the price tag for it, lmao. Three hundred dollars~!

A mutual wrote a little 3 sentence fic that had my brain buzzing. Basically it was Bowser and Luigi, just finished with their wedding, and Bowser admits that he has no idea what comes after the wedding because he’d never gotten that far XD That concept is so funny to me. And it's also kind of sweet that Bowser’s willing to be vulnerable with Luigi like that. Couldn't stop thinking about it all throughout church choir rehearsal, so I ended up staying up late to write it!

FRIDAY
So it turns out if you let the Alarmo alarm time out it plays a sad sound XD today was a Zelda scene, so Link died and got a game over, lol

The mutual liked the fic I wrote! Yay! This is the first time I’ve ever had a proper fandom friend to bounce off of and it’s been quite a fun experience so far~

Got the Rainbow Connection sheet music for a cappella choir. I have no memory of ever listening to the original song, but the arrangement is gorgeous, so maybe I should at some point!

SATURDAY
Went to a Splatoon LAN event! It was fun! I once again didn’t talk to anyone except the one person I knew who was also competing for the whole event, but I was there! To at least pad the numbers for the group photo at the end! I got back really late though. The train did this cool thing where it was on standby twice with the doors open so allll the cold air was coming in 🙂

Also someone on the train had the same hat as me, hehe~

SUNDAY
Skipped church because I was lazy, lmao. Choir wasn't singing this Sunday, anyway.

Worked on downloading my a cappella arrangements on my computer as mp3 files. The memories…some of these arrangements were total bops, haha!

Did the final proofreading on the April Fools’ fic, and loaded it into AO3 as a draft. I’ll have to publish that draft during work tomorrow, so hopefully I can do that from my phone with no trouble.

Chewing my way through
AvidMc’s videos. Apparently he has lore, and it promises to be interesting! I like his vibes, also. And his music!

MONDAY
So many things were fighting me at work today. Database 1 was fighting me, Database 2 was fighting me, even our password manager was fighting me! So tiring…

My last of the new hair products came in! Gonna test them soon~

TUESDAY
Went to a conference today! Unfortunately, I was late because I got on the wrong bus, so I missed the provided breakfast :( no free filled pastries for me :(

The sessions were good though. The most interesting one ended up being the Advanced AI one; about using Generative AI in workflows. As someone who's never even really seen the GenAI workspace, it was very interesting to hear the thoughts of someone who was a self-proclaimed lover of AI (and platypus. And gymnastics). His presentation on how to give good prompts was rather thorough! Hopefully the slides will be somewhere for me to grab, but honestly I'm doubtful.

The provided lunch sucked, though. The steak was dry, and I could make better chicken at home XD the rest was rather bland. Which was interesting, because this was Mexican food, lol

Got a comment on my April Fools fic in Spanish :D and I kind of knew what it said before I translated it! Still (sorta) got it!

WEDNESDAY
I didn't have to go into the office today!

I also knocked some stuff off my todo list, like making a new online banking account and hooking my brother up to the password manager. A mildly productive day!

THURSDAY
Took the day off~

Dad came up to visit! I'm going home because I've got an event in a town closer to them than us, and it'll shave off 20 or so minutes off the drive. Good, because I'll be driving late. For lunch we ordered food and I had a burger that was very very tall. I didn't finish it.

Did a bunch of editing on the Bowsario Rapunzel fic. It’s in more of a finished state than I thought it was!

FRIDAY - SATURDAY

Spent all day both days at Event, lmao. Forgot my phone charger on Friday, though. My phone was at 5% when I got back home :) And I was unfortunately fighting the feeling of being vaguely lonely the whole time :( Saturday was better though! :) It was very fun. Also, if you’ve never seen the
Daily Special quartet, you really should. They're so funny!

Although...there is something about how my silly April Fools fic has more comments than my regular fic that’s just…*clenched fist*
mrsluigivargas: (Default)
SUNDAY
Today’s sermon was about showing compassion to people! Apparently there’s a whole bit about the Jonah bible story I forgot where, upon going to preach to the Bad People and the Bad People turning good and thus not needing to be punished by God, Johan sulks about how the Bad People aren't getting punished after all, because he thinks they still deserve it for being Bad. And God’s like “Bro. Who do you think I am. Uncompassionate for all of my creations?” And honestly? Mood. Topical, even.

I almost went on an adventure to Ulta to find some hair brushes/hair clips similar to the ones last week’s salonist used, but figured I could try my local CVS and Walgreens first. And what do you know, the stuff I wanted was there! Yay!

There’s nothing like finishing off a good session in Ring Fit and then turning around and eating like ten cinnamon twists from Dominoes. No one else does it like me.

And I FINALLY finished my April Fool’s Fic, OML. 3.3k words! Yikes!

MONDAY

Morning imports at work…1k online gifts! 🙃 Didn't eat lunch until 2pm, lol

I’m in a weird spot where I need to wash my hair but the products the stylist recommended aren't here yet so I still gotta use my suboptimal stuff. Came out OK, given the circumstances. At least I got to practice technique and the new brush and clips I bought! And this wash-and-go style’s looking alright! I'm really glad my hair actually has a shape to it now.

TUESDAY

Checked out the Alarmo patch notes and apparently the Sleepy Sounds can be up to 60 minutes now! And also you can set different alarm times and modes for every day of the week. And scenes can be previewed now! This cute little clock is really growing into something robust! How exciting!

One recommended hair product came in! 4 to go~

Started in on archiving my original posts from the ‘net. Finished Pillowfort, got decent progress made for Tumblr. The harder part will be finding all the posts that I’d replied to; I never tagged those. I should tag those as I see them.

WEDNESDAY
Another one of my hair products came in. Now it’s 3 down, 2 to go! The other two won't come until the 31st, iirc.

Finished archiving all my original Tumblr posts (the ones of substance, anyway). Now what's left is the Fic posts. I might write them in html because they'll have to be that anyway, I think? We’ll see.

THURSDAY
Nintendo Direct this morning! Joined a calling the discord server I'm in for the first time since joining (a year or so). Didn't talk much though, because I was babysitting an import while it was going on. Not much in the direct personally for me, aside from Patapon coming to Switch in a few months and a new Rhythm Heaven coming out next year and a reminder about the Dragon Quest ports.  Everyone on the call was very excited about Tomodachi Life 2, though!

I also had a very productive evening making the fic posts for Dreamwidth. Really enjoying writing out my thoughts on each fic, just like old times! Won't do full writer's commentaries on them because no one would read them, but a few tidbits never hurt anyone!

FRIDAY
Today at work our database data is being moved to the cloud. So we can't access the database. Accessing the database is 99% of my job, so I have heck-all to do today. Other folks on my team are taking reduced hours. I'll see how much work I can scrounge up to do before I join them.

Attempted to make a burrito today. Overstuffed it to all hell. Tasted OK, though. Need a different vegetable for it that isn't lettuce.

Another productive evening! Finished the fic posts and then moved on to archiving posts from other sites I've been on as well, and even some old fanfic i saw in OneNote. Tomorrow I wanna move as much as I can out of OneNote into word docs, because OneNote sucks. And then I'll back everything up to my external hard drive, and then take the opportunity to double check something for my fic, and then hopefully practice some music, and maybe print a zine :)

SATURDAY
Finished my post archival project! In addition to copying down all my substantive original posts from Tumblr, Pillowfort, Reddit, Aethy, and Cohost, I also got everything out of Microsoft OneNote and Google Keep and Discord. And I backed up all the files to my external hard-drive!  Definitely felt the fatigue near the end of it all, haha.

Also, my art supplies came in tonight, so now I have no excuse to not print that zine and make a test book, haha
mrsluigivargas: (Default)
SUNDAY
It’s Music Sunday at church! We sang Hyden’s Little Mass. Later I went to a cappella rehearsal so we could get some coaching. Got a compliment on my Bass singing from the coach as I was leaving 😀

I upped the difficulty in RingFit! The exercises are becoming very satisfying to do, now. Especially the burn when I do the Front Presses, haha.

Also, this part of my April Fool’s fic I’m working on right now is giving me trouble :( the pacing is wack, I’m pretty sure. I think I fixed it though, and added some more work for myself in the process OTL

MONDAY
The start of a week off work~! Dad visited and we looked at couches 🙂 — Oh, excuse me for a moment — *turns around, waves a stick in the air wildly* DO NOT! BORROW GRIEF! FROM THE FUTURE! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! *turns back around, coughs* oh huh that was weird. Anyway —

TUESDAY
Found a point where Ellipsus could be useful: Got a major detail wrong so I’m gonna have to rewrite some scenes, and the draft emerging capabilities are especially relevant because of this. This so rarely happens, though! I dont think it merits a full switchover! But anyway yeah I’m gonna have to rewrite scenes unfortunately, and add some other details too. This fic wasn't supposed to be this complicated! 🙁

WEDNESDAY
I got a haircut!!! My first time at a salon ever. It went well! I liked sitting under the big dryer machine, haha. And everyone at rehearsal tonight liked it!

…The products to maintain it though cost so much money ☠️

THURSDAY
Started playing Xenoblade Chronicles X! I got 5 or 6 hours into it. Definitely a different vibe from the mainline games. I’m still trying to figure out what the gameplay loop is supposed to be after the game opens up. The Nopon character is annoying, but honestly I shouldn't be surprised. I miss Riku, though. He was GOATed. I’m having fun with the combat, though! I like the Soul Talking or whatever it’s called, haha. Hurray for being told what to do and when to do it!

FRIDAY
Accidentally locked myself into a quest in XCX that takes IRL time to finish, apparently. Whoops! This game is not really binge-able and I’m sorta digging it. But anyway I’m gonna leave the game running overnight and hope my switch doesn't explode.

What is “hard” work? I’ve been thinking about it this evening. I mean, I do work, but I wouldn’t necessarily classify it as “hard”. Especially if it's a non-physical task. I dunno. That’s too complicated for how late at night it’s gotten.

SATURDAY
Ok so leaving the switch on overnight in handheld mode just causes it to go to sleep after a while. But I got one (1) collectible, though! This game is driving me crazy, and I cant tell if its in a bad way or not. In other news, I drove to Sam’s Club with Dad for groceries 😀
