Bowuigi fake dating AU that stays fake
Mar. 28th, 2025 01:27 pmFic idea that currently sits outside my scope but I’m thinking about today: Bowser & Luigi (relative) strangers to friends fake dating AU
Like they both have to go to some distant lands (far enough away that they don’t recognize Bowser on sight, lol) where they coincidentally bump into each other on the way and realize it would be more advantageous to pose as a couple. But they’re bad at it at first, though no one calls them out about it because in the beginning of the ruse they look 0.5 seconds from a violent breakup at all times and that’s not something anyone would be willing to stick their neck into on a whim!
I’m envisioning the turning point being the revelation that Luigi’s motives for coming to this location are wholly selfish (negative), while Bowser’s are the opposite. This would startle them both into rethinking their opinions of each other, and then they’d actually start getting along properly, which of course would enhance the fake dating dynamic.
Thus everyone around them gets to watch this strange couple slowly mend their own relationship over the course of their stay, and they’d begin to get invested and start offering unsolicited advice and generally come to think by the tail end of it that those two may be one of the cutest couples they’d ever seen…only for them to, when both their missions are accomplished, offhandedly mention that they’re probably going to break up anyway after their vacation. The rumor mill would be in shambles, lmao.
Oh, also it would be interesting if at some point Luigi and Bowser had to hold their ruse up in front of Mario or Kamek or someone else they knew, lol. Whether that be via video/audio call, where the other wanders into frame/is heard over the phone, prompting a whole bunch of frantic explanations, or if someone shows up in person and they’re not immediately in on the scheme yet.
I think, with a lack of full explanation, Mario would know something’s up but Luigi swears up and down he isn’t being manipulated so he decides to trust him (though give him a little shit about it, obvs). Kamek would also be reasonably sure something's up, but he’d pretend to fall for the ruse to mess with Bowser, lmao. The both of them would love to play the part of slightly-to-very disapproving in-law, haha. Or rather, Mario would probably act wary but supportive — it would be Peach, who came with Mario and may or may not be married to him in this AU — who would be Very Disapproving, hehe.
…but yeah if anyone wants this AU as a jumping off point feel free to take it! I’m probably not gonna write it out to a whole fic anytime soon. It would likely require multiple chapters to be effective and I dont have that in me right now.
