April Fools! Here's a Backyardigans Fic!

Weeks after all the robots in Mega City were repaired, Repairman Austin receives another call. The robots are rampaging all over again! What could be the cause this time?

I’ve had this in my drafts for years. I wanted to write this up for last year’s April Fools, but I ran out of time. But I managed to do it this year!
I tried to stick as close to the show’s usual tone/style as I could, but obviously I was never going to match it exactly. The most obvious way of accommodating canon was to restrain myself from going into character’s heads too much. Even though I’ve got a lot of lore in my head about this episode as a stand-alone universe — like how Austin’s job is legally mandated and how Rex and Roscoe are friends now and what the Professor and Austin might have talked about while they were fixing up all the robots that prompted the Professor to attempt this plan in the first place. Some extra character details still slipped through, though, like Austin’s joy at having a robot to repair and Pablo’s panic about having caused a city-wide catastrophe.
Despite me writing this like an episode, I don’t think it has enough meat on its bones to be an episode. There are no songs, for one, and for two, I think there would be an extra scene between arriving at the Robotics Lab and getting to the top of it. That scene would probably be where the rampaging robots of the Lab make themselves known, instead of in the Lab room with the Professor.
Also, something about writing in present tense was really throwing me this entire time. I don’t know what it was; it's not like I’ve never written in present tense before. Although usually it would be when the fic was also in second person…
