Mario Tennis Fever Story Mode

Watched the story mode of Mario Tennis Fever last night! I did a little liveblog-ish thing in my notes app, lmao. So here are my thoughts, all cleaned up!

> Fascinated by the opening cutscene of the game pairing Mario and Bowser vs Peach and Daisy. Did Luigi pull a muscle, or…?

> THE TOADS HAVE TO CLEAN THE STADIUM AFTER EACH MATCH??? That’s so horrid I hate it. Somebody save them…!

> Also fascinated by the first part of the opening cutscene of the story mode being a glorified slideshow. Fascinated in a positive way, to be clear. Like yesss save some time and money wahoo

> Also maybe it’s because I hadn’t seen a Mario Thing In Motion in a hot minute but everyone looks so CUTE!!! Mario and Luigi especially; I wanna squish them so bad…!

> I love how Wario and Waluigi just casually awaken some ancient evil in the background while Mario and Luigi are having a way easier time of it. I’m kind of a little obsessed with that. Where’s the spin off game of this spin off game where we see what the hell Wario and Waluigi were doing

> So the turned into babies thing seems to be like a physical transformation, instead of a de-aging thing. Which is kind of horrific if you think about it for too long. The body dysmorphia probably goes insane, and then to be treated like babies, also? Mario’s called over the intercom as “Baby Mario”, for fucks sake. And apparently the fact that they’re babies has to be kept under wraps, so, like. Fucked up!!! Between that and the whole “Daisy getting sick in a way that she cant get better without magical artifact intervention” the premise of this story mode stresses me out.

> The startled noise I made when Wario and Waluigi had textboxes! :O

> I don’t know why this made me laugh.

> Love these two statements on Mario’s personality, btw

> Why is Peach’s airship going on the fritz just ‘cause of a little fire damage. Girl. You’re not Bowser here, you don’t have to worry about insurance premiums. Get a better reactor! Please!

> ALSO ACTUALLY WAIT SHE HAS AN AIRSHIP!!!! IF I KNEW THAT I WOULD HAVE SET THAT ONE FIC I WROTE ON IT INSTEAD OF ON THE HOT AIR BALLOON FUCK!!!!!

> Random detail: It’s interesting how the front figurehead of Bowser’s ship is in color, instead of silver metal…and that its a referred to as a battleship in contrast to Peach’s airship

> Speaking of, oh here’s Bowser! I was wondering what Wario and Waluigi’s angle was, trying to burn our ship down out of the sky. Apparently Bowser wants to save Peach himself, or something. Which is a little bit cute! And also makes me wonder where tf Peach is. She has not been in this game beyond the opening cutscenes at all…And Daisy, who’d come from the Academy to help us, hadn’t seen her either, so she’s officially MIA.

> Oh, wait a minute here she is! Hi Peach! There you are! Where’ve you been?

> WHAT THE FUCK SHE WAS WITH BOWSER THIS WHOLE TIME????? How tf did that happen. WHEN did that happen. This game…! Kidnapped offscreen????? With that fucking binky??? Oh my god.

> Anyway that same spider monster from the story intro attacked the battleship I guess. And maybe took Bowser, too, and we’re gonna have to fight a possessed version of him later – oh wait no he’s fine he just wandered off to the Valley, lmao.

> Luigi’s first to be turned back to normal!!! And he said Mario’s name! He didn’t have that voiceline when he was a baby ;.; the call-and-response is complete! And with a lovely little pose, hehehe

> And Peach is normal, too! The binky is banished back to the ether from whenst it came...

> Oh, oh the monster just being a really big scuttlebug wearing a crown is kind of lame, actually. No wonder they added Bowser to the final boss battle. AND it’s a series of boss arena reduxes??? Geeeeez….what a lackluster finale, lmao

> And actually wait a second why are Bowser and the King working together I thought Bowser wanted to steal the King’s power but now they’re doing combo attacks? Hello???

> And finally, Mario gets a whole little cutscene to transform back, eyyyyy

> Annnnd Bowser just kind of disappears after his defeat, huh. Craaazy.

> Actually now that I’m thinking about it I have no clue where Wario and waluigi went, also. Though the credits show they got un-deaged offscreen. No idea how theyre getting off that island, tho.

> Awwwwwww…!

> Oh, and the post credits cutscene leads right into the game’s opening cutscene! I guess Mario offered to play doubles with Bowser, waugh!
