Sicktember 2022!

I finished my Sicktember fics last weekend!!! 🎉 ...Aside from some minor edits, of course. I think I have every prompt accounted for except for Chronic Illness. I had no clue what to do with that one. I had a lot of fun writing them, even though I had no idea what some of the prompts were (Coddling? Heartburn??? Cold sweats?????). But that's what Google DuckDuckGo is for! :)
I had two categories of fills: the Fandom Fills (Super Mario fandom, to be precise), and the OC Fills (that are all self-insert/self-ship based!).
For the Super Mario fills, I wrote 20 fills for 25 prompts. I wrote a total of 10.8k words! The average number of words per fill is 542 words. But there are two outliers in these word counts; one is at 2.5k words, and the other is at 1.2k (the third highest is just under 600 words; the shortest fill is 106). So the average number of words per fill without those outliers is 376.
When I was writing these fandom fills, I realized that I could string them together to tell a loosely connected story. I didn't make them all together perfectly consecutive, although some of them are. I just didn't wanna get bogged down by trying to write too much connective tissue between the fills. Based on who was the subject of what fill, and some other factors, I split them up into four sections. Arc 1 focuses on Mario, Luigi, and Peach, and Arc 2 focuses on Bowser and company planning an evil scheme. The Interlude between them is where the sickfic bug transfers over from one group to the other, and Arc 3 returns to Mario and Peach, after Mario has defeated Bowser. Arc 3 is the longest (5.9k - that's where the two outliers live) and the Interlude is the shortest (526 words total).
I think I really liked writing Mario and his friends, because their dialogue and actions are simple; while Peach is a bit formal and Luigi's a bit of a himbo and Mario doesn't talk, it's easier to get a feel for them and how they react to things. On the other hand, Kamek is my dear blorbo, and I really love writing him and how he interacts with others, but it's really hard! There's a fine line between keeping the vague tsundere-ness that he and his charge and Kammy have and making sure they're still at least a little bit kind. Not to mention that I have no idea how to write kids so poor Junior just ends up as a plot device most of the time, lol.
For the OC fills, I wrote 6 fills for 9 prompts. These were really easy to write, honestly. All but one are self-ship fodder~. The writing quality of these is lower than the fandom fills, I think, but I'm really the only one that's going to be looking at them, so I can be as self-indulgent as I want! I wrote a total of 1.7k words for all of these, with the average fill being 287 words.
Now that I'm done with these, I'm going to put them away for a week or two before going back to edit them. And as much as I want to work on my Blizzard sickfic, I've been staring at long-form sickfic for the better part of the last few months. I need to write something else. I have a couple non-sickfic one-shots in my WIP folder; I can work on those instead of trying to figure out wtf I should be titling my Sicktember fics.
