I wanna speedrun Bug Fables, but...

I played Bug Fables recently. It was awesome. A lot of people say that it’s the Paper Mario Nintendo refuses to make. I've never played a Paper Mario game, so I wouldn’t know how accurate that statement is. I really really love this game though.
I kinda wanted to try and speedrun it, because I've been watching a lot of speedrunners recently and I'm curious, but when I looked up some info, apparently all the runs are on the PC version. I have the Switch version. So I guess that’s not happening, lol.
Nevertheless, when I have time I really wanna replay this game. It's honestly one of my favorite games of all time. The characters are very delightful! I would die for the main cast. The battle system is also super engaging, moreso than the Paper Mario games (or so I've heard), because there's a bit more strategy with elemental weaknesses and turn relays and medal (badge) synergy and how everyone is capable of tattling enemies in this game instead of just one partner…
Anyway this game is great.

Date: 2020-07-17 05:43 am (UTC)as a Paper Mario fan, it is basically the Paper Mario that Nintendo won't make. but since I started my second playthrough, I see and think about its flaws more than I did the first time. not that it's a bad game, but I personally can't call it great. and that's ok.
nothing stopping you from speedrunning it for fun, even if you don't play on PC. I wonder why speedrunning it on PC is more optimal, though.
I never thought the battle system was all that engaging. surprised people think that much of it. I haven't read much in the way of opinions on the game myself. I dislike when turn relaying is more or less mandatory, though. really gets on my nerves.

Date: 2020-07-17 07:35 pm (UTC)I haven't had the time to sit down and watch a Bug Fables speedrun, but I'm assuming the PC version lets you do certain necessary glitches that make things faster. That generally seems to be the case whenever a PC version of a game is run instead of a console version.
To be fair, I haven't really played that many RPGs. The only point of reference I really have is Dragon Quest 11, and that combat system got old relatively quickly. I'm going to be playing the new Paper Mario soon, though, so I guess I'll have another point of reference soon.
Can I ask when the turn relays felt mandatory, though? I don't remember anything like that in my playthrough. Unless its in reference to how some enemies can only be hit by certain characters. Then yeah, I think I can see where you're coming from.
