With the new Fields of Mistria update comes the conclusion of the Mines storyline, which I completed last weekend.

I'm not impressed by the new bachelorette they introduced. On one hand, she seems like a Juniper 2.0 type of character, and we already have Juniper so why do we need another one? On the other hand, this game has introduced a new bachlorette who's somehow seemingly skinnier than the other ones. And that's an impressive bar to trip over, given the current options.

Pics of new bachelorette for reference

(But seriously ever since the lack of body diversity in this game was pointed out to me I've been going crazy. All the girls have those rib and stomach definition lines! All of them! I swear it!)

Also, she'd been disguised as the kind and demure Dragon Priestess this entire time, so that's who I was expecting to be able to date at the end of all this. So having the rug pulled out from under me in favor of Ms. Stereotypical Girlboss Baddie didn't feel too great. It also prevented me from getting invested in the story she shared with Caldarus, because I just wanted her to fuck off, lmao. And the game doesn't even let you tell her to fuck off, either, in its dialogue options, so my only option was to shout at my TV screen enough that my brother wandered over wanting to know what I was crashing out about, lol

But, since she's introduced as tricking us into setting her free because she's one of those greedy-for-power types or whatever we've gotta sweep all that up and mostly away, because to be honest do you expect this game to fully explore the fact that the new girl was a terrible person back in the day that caused real harm to a lot of people enough to be magically sealed away in a cave for the good of the world? (Nevermind that Caldarus' motivations for doing so are also a little bit "black and white", as he later admits) So of course, Mistria is in danger of being ~destroyed~ now, because of a surge in magic from breaking her seal, so we ~have~ to combine powers with her to save it! And now that she's helped us do so, we can call a truce on the longstanding dragon conflict and all be cool now! Nice and simple! Throw in some minor reflection/regret the next time you talk to her, and we're back to cozy, baybeeeee

To be fair to her, though, she starts at Heart Level 6. I don't know what her 8-heart cutscene is, nor her shooting Star Festival date; maybe it's there that the game gets to delve into what it needs to. But I doubt it, tbh.

The end of the mines story isnt all bad though. The whole "saving Mistria" thing was public enough that literally every townsperson has something to say about it, and their dialogue is really cute and heartwarming. You even get dialogue options during some of the convos, most notably the ones with the bachelor(ette)s (I had 8 hearts with all of them). It's really cool, to talk to the bechelor(ette)s and be explicitly explaining all you'd been up to in the mines, to which they say something supportive or kind. Or guilty; March apologizes for treating you like crap when you first met and you get a choice of 3(!!!) things to say back to him! Does whichever you choose matter? No, probably not. But it made the flow of the conversation so sweet, anyway. And also before you explain everything to him Hayden is so concerned about the two "strangers" you appeared with that he offers to beat them up if they were harming you :.: And when you talk to Holt he says he had puns ready for the next earthquake but when the moment came it had been too serious to deploy them and you have the option to be like "not even one pun 🥺 for your old buddy? 🥺" and then he says something to the effect of us really shaking things up by revealing we have magic powers XD This game's strength really is in the community of Mistria; I love how integrated you feel among them.
